Small Business Owners- COVID 19
Small business owners across Houston are trying to ensure they are protected with our COVID 19 situation. After Judge Hidalgo signed the order to close all food and beverage storefronts, many restaurant owners are faced with the grim future of how to avoid bankruptcy and potential evictions.
Although residential evictions have been halted in Harris County, small business owners are still left vulnerable.
The Houston restaurant community has penned a letter to Mayor Sylvester Turner requesting assistance. The letter asks to establish protocol that would help them survive this unknown length of time they will be closed:
- State sales tax relief.
- Landlord provisions including rent at cost only, a 30 day relief, or renegotiating leases.
- Provide sick pay for employees.
- Insurance denial provisions, such as allowing restaurants to file ‘interruption of business' claims.
